Frequently asked questions

Will therapy help? How do I know if I need it?

The overwhelming majority of people participating in therapy get better—usually a lot better. According to  Consumer Reports, 9 out of 10 patients report positive benefits and most benefit "substantially." Improvement typically continues after treatment ends.

What is your training? What style of therapy do your practice?

I completed my training at the University of Michigan and at The Psychological Clinic in Ann Arbor, Michigan. My approach is interactive and relational. I work extensively with Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy (AEDP) and its emphasis on healing from the get-go and neuroscience, and with Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT) and its emphasis on attachment and emotion.

My partner is reticent about coming to couples therapy. What can I do?

It's  common for one person to feel uncomfortable about coming into therapy. I'm happy to talk with your partner about his or  her concerns. If it's still uncomfortable, you may want to come in alone and we can chat about your situation. This can help a lot in getting things moving.

How long will it take?

You can  expect to feel something different the first time we  meet. If that 1st session feels like a good fit, I advise individuals and couples to commit to at least 4 additional sessions. The average  number of visits typically ranges between 16-24. Throughout this period, you should continue to experience movement. Some folks find that they continue to benefit and enjoy meeting well after this peri
